Death of Print
The idea for this came to me while I was taking my dog for a walk through the graveyard by my house last spring. In reality, I use the computer to create a lot of my art and design. On the computer everything is boiled down to 1’s and 0’s stored virtually. Traditionally humans like to record their knowledge (at least ‘open’ knowledge) in a physical format. Egyptians carved it on pyramid walls and wrote on papyrus. Cai Lun of China invented paper in 105AD. Paper is considered one of the four great Chinese inventions. Now we are in the age of the Internet, smart phones and digital ink. Magazines & newspapers are starting to use apps to disseminate information and books are being sold virtually. It is less expensive for a company to use a virtual means of dissemination then a physical one. It is also easier and faster to get content to the consumer. (Not to mention greener and more interactive). How long does print media realistically have before it goes away?
